Form guide

Argentina's men finished the regular SVNS season as League Winners, winning more rounds than any other team (three) and pipping Ireland to top spot by two points. They started in inspired form, taking silver in Dubai at the end of 2023 before winning the three successive tournaments in Cape Town, Perth and Vancouver to establish a strong lead in the series.

Their form and results dipped slightly in Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Singapore but was still strong enough to finish top of the standings at the end of the regular season. Only an Antoine Dupont-inspired France could deny them the series-Grand Final double as they lost the last match of the season to Les Bleus Sevens.

Star dust

Sevens commentator and reporter Rob Vickerman says: "Having made his debut at the Tokyo Olympics and won the World Rugby Men's Sevens Player of the Year award in 2021, Marcos Moneta is still one of the jewels in the crown of men's sevens. He's recently been injured but will hopefully recover in time to be back to his tormenting best. As fast as a track sprinter, he is a try-scoring machine and kicks the rugby ball almost as well as his idol, Lionel Messi."

Road to Paris 2024

Los Pumas Sevens booked their place at Paris 2024 with a top-four finish in the World Rugby Sevens Series 2023.

Previous Olympics

Argentina men's team captured the country's first Olympic rugby sevens medal at Tokyo 2020 (played in 2021), beating Great Britain 17-12 to claim bronze having lost to Fiji in the semi-finals. Four years earlier at Rio 2016, they finished second to Fiji in their pool but lost to Great Britain 5-0 after extra-time in the quarter-final.

Argentina women's sevens have not yet competed in an Olympic Games.
