Clubhouse - Attracting and retaining Families

A video provided by World Rugby about attracting families to our rugby clubs and then keeping them motivated to come back and support.

Attracting and Retaining Families

The family unit is vital, driving income, resource, providing participants, revenue, volunteers and networks for the club.

The key factor, however, is the income for the club which could include family membership, merchandise, events, summer schools, food, and drink. It is therefore crucial that the club:

  • Is active in attracting and retaining families.
  • Engages the whole family and that the children aren’t simply “dropped off” before training and picked up afterwards, with only a junior membership being purchased.
  • Recognises that their community is diverse and understands that all groups need to be considered.

The following sections about attracting and retaining the interest and support of families are developed in detail in the PDFs available for download below:

  1. Key Points to consider
  2. What are the “wants and needs” of the parents for their children?
  3. What are the ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ of the parents?
  4. Marketing Material
  5. Strategies for retaining families in the club
  6. Ways to strengthen the bond with your customer through communication
