In the build-up to the Tokyo Sevens, we talk with Japan's new star Lomano Lemeki, who has taken the Asian Series by storm.

Japan's new sensation Lemeki, playing in his first season for Japan Sevens, scored a record 27 tries in the four tournaments including 11 in Thailand and two winning tries in Cup finals against Hong Kong.

Now Lemeki is set to play in his first-ever HSBC Sevens World Series event as Japan look to gain momentum from this weekend's Tokyo Sevens for the core team qualifier in Hong Kong next week.

Lomano, when did you first get into Rugby? I grew up in New Zealand with Tongan heritage, before I moved to Japan in 2009 and last year got the opportunity to play for the Japan Sevens team and had the opportunity to play in the Asian Sevens Series.

What is your first memory of Rugby? I first saw rugby watching the Sevens World Series when I was a kid back in New Zealand. I remember watching it when I was in primary school and fell in love with it then.

Who are your sporting idols? In Rugby it has to be New Zealand's Orea Ai'i, and William Ryder of Fiji. Very different styles but I used to love watching them when I was younger.

What was it like scoring so many tries in the Asian Series? The Asian Sevens Series was a good experience, of course I enjoyed it. But I think the transition from Asian to the World Series will be harder, the fitness levels and the way the game is played and the physicality will be tougher and a challenge.

What hobbies do you have outside of Rugby? When I am not at training or on the road, I have a wife and a kid that I enjoy spending time with and chilling.

Favourite film? I tend to like action movies, older ones. Anything with Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone in it, like Rocky.

What do you listen to before a match? I have some Tongan music to listen to, that's quite slow and old before I switch to something more upbeat to get me into the game."

Favourite sporting memory? Seeing the All Blacks win the World Cup in 2011 was pretty special. I wasn't born in 1987 so it was a good thing to see. Mine hasn't happened yet but hopefully it will this weekend.
