Scottish Rugby has announced that Scotstoun Stadium will be transformed into an homage to Hollywood in time for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s, the penultimate round of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

The 'Movies' theme for the tournament is fitting, given the levels of suspense and drama likely to unfold among core teams battling to retain their core team status for the 2013/14 Series.

Later this month in Hong Kong, four non-core teams will make it through a pre-qualifying competition to compete in London against Asian champions Hong Kong and the three bottom-ranked core teams after round 8 in Glasgow.

All the core teams currently in or near the 'danger zone' will be desperate to avoid what is likely to be a dog fight in London, and every ranking point gained in Glasgow, and prior to that in Hong Kong and Japan, will be crucial.

If the cut-off were to happen today, Spain, Portugal and the USA would face the battle to retain core team status in London, but Glasgow hosts Scotland, Australia, Canada and England all remain within easy reach of those sides with rounds still to be played in Hong Kong and Tokyo before the crucial drama of Glasgow.

"We can’t wait to get back to Glasgow to play in front of a massive, noisy crowd and experience that buzz at Scotstoun again,” said Scotland's captain Colin Gregor at the official launch of the event at Glasgow’s iconic Grosvenor Cinema.

In 2012 the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s was the first international Sevens tournament to be staged in the city and attracted just short of 27,000 fans and brought in an estimated seven-figure sum to Glasgow’s economy.

“Ahead of next year’s Commonwealth Games (in Glasgow) this tournament is a great opportunity to showcase rugby sevens to a Scottish audience," said Minister for Commonwealth Games & Sport, Shona Robison. "As well as a fantastic line-up of international rugby stars, this weekend of sport will offer a chance for school-aged children throughout Scotland to try rugby and even play on the same pitch as their sporting heroes."
