Wales, Ireland, Croatia and Scotland could still all qualify for the second Women's RWC Sevens after the weekend's FIR/AER Women's Championship.
With two tournaments taking place over the weekend, in Bulgaria and Belgium, 22 teams competed for four spots available at the final European qualifier for the Women's RWC Sevens 2013.
Both Wales and Ireland booked their place in that competition which takes place in Moscow on June 30 and July 1 without conceding a point. Wales scored 51 tries in their seven matches, and beat Romania 46-0 and Croatia 49-0 in their semi final and final respectively.
Ireland beat Georgia 46-0 in their semi final before proving too strong for Scotland in the final, 29-0, as they scored 41 tries and 242 unanswered points over the weekend.
The two runners-up, Scotland and Croatia, join the two winners as well as the top 12 sides in Europe at the qualifier in Moscow for a chance to qualify for the RWC Sevens 2013 which also takes place in Russia on 28-30 June 2013, and will be seeded 13th-16th.
From the qualifier in Moscow five European places will be available for the 16-team RWC Sevens Women's event, and despite having reached the qualifier already, how the top 12 sides finish in the Netherlands at the European Women's Sevens Series this weekend will determine their seeding.
The European Women’s Sevens Series taking place on Ameland Island, Amsterdam is the first official such event for women in Europe and further builds on the extended calendar of elite women’s tournaments in the past seven months, which included the IRB-sanctioned IRB Women’s Sevens Challenge Cup events in Dubai, Hong Kong and London run alongside the HSBC Sevens World Series.
