Bermuda capped a fine week of unbeaten rugby by beating Trinidad
& Tobago 18-15 to clinch the 2010 NACRA (North American and
Caribbean Rugby Association) Under 19 Championship title.
T&T had looked in control for long periods of the match
and led through tries by John Taylor, Joseph Quashie and Jonathan
Lewis. However, Bermudan prop Brynly Toms scored to close the gap
and wing Patrick Richardson touched down for the decisive try with
just four minutes remaining.
In the Plate, Mexico defeated Bahamas 22-17 to secure third
place in the tournament, while 2009 champions Cayman beat Barbados
15-5 to take the third-tier Bowl trophy.
Cayman women land first Caribbean title
The Cayman Islands women's team secured its first
Caribbean Championship crown with a comfortable 48-0 victory
against hosts Bahamas.
Two quick tries from centre Lolitta Hanna gave them a 10-0
lead and further scores from Lisa Bird and Emily Davies took them
out to 22-0 at half time. After the break there were more tries for
Bird and Hanna as they piled on yet more pressure to run out eight
tries to nil winners.
Also in action were Under 20 sides from USA and Canada, both of whom scored victories against a Caribbean select XV.
In the match between the two North American rivals, the
Canadians edged the USA 6-3.
