Becoming a coach
Coaching is an incredibly rewarding and hugely important role within the game. It is a great way to remain involved and active on and off the pitch.
The role of a coach
Coaches are responsible for developing and improving current players, and inspiring the next generation of players. They have a responsibility to ensure their players are safe by following best practice and teaching strong technique, and that they enjoy their rugby.
Getting started in coaching
It is easy to get started and most of the time this involves volunteering in junior rugby and learning both the theory and practice required. There are many online learning modules available on Passport and you should also be able to get advice and guidance from your local club. Before starting any formal coaching you should take a World Rugby Coaching Qualification (or equivalent) through your Union, which usually involves attending one or more sessions or courses. These can be a lot of fun and often you will make new friends.
