Switch
The Switch app has been developed to allow accurate and complete data to be collected and shared during matches. Recording of replacements, cards and scores is done for all matches in the app.
It's designed to make the collection of data more efficient and to allow Law 3 of the Laws of the game to be applied correctly and consistently. The functionality has been designed to copy the traditional process of requesting replacements, but instead of substitution cards, team managers enter their requests into a tablet and the sideline officials then approve them.
Switch is currently only available on IOS devices with the match functions only on iPad.
The app is free of charge for everyone to use but there may be a cost for support depending on the use case.
On-line and Off-line Modes
The app is available in on-line and off-line mode. With off-line mode being available to anyone who wants to use it. Offline mode does not have all of the functionality that on-line mode does and a game needs to be set up manually on the tablet. It can be used to record replacements, cards and scores for both teams simultaneously.
On-line mode is used by World Rugby and other tournaments where:
- Team sheets are available in advance (or live through World Rugby systems).
- There is robust and reliable internet pitch-side.
- Sufficient hardware (4 tablets) is available on site
- Properly trained support is available on site and remote support has been arranged through World Rugby.
In addition, on-line access allows red and yellow card reports and disciplinary reports to be completed by referees and disciplinary officers.

FUTURE WORK
While functional adjustments are being made to Switch on a regular basis the primary deliverable is to expand availability of the app to Android devices to give more choice and flexibility in delivering it across the sport.
