Our mission

Rugby is a vibrant, inclusive and successful global sport practiced by more than 8.5 million men, women and children across 132 nations, and supported by a rapidly growing fanbase of over 500 million.

World Rugby is more than a leading international federation, we exist to make rugby better for everyone.

Within an attention economy, we are in an era of unprecedented lifestyle and entertainment choice and, like all sports, rugby must increase its share of audience if it is to grow and thrive. Driven by a clear mandate to grow the global game, World Rugby has transformed its business model to harness the opportunities that this new era presents. Our ambition is to supercharge the sport’s growth by making it more accessible and relevant to a broader audience.

Through a combination of business and major event hosting transformation, we are entering an unprecedented decade of opportunity and growth as we look towards our ‘north star’, men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups in the USA in 2031 and 2033.

World Rugby employs over 200 staff globally, with its headquarters located in Dublin, Ireland. We also have an office in London, UK.

Our teams

To achieve these goals, we have restructured the organisation with dedicated International Federation, Women's Rugby, Global Services and Events and Media pillars to enable us to continue to be a high performing governing body, while stimulating growth via media, events and revenue strategies.

Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

World Rugby is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce to reflect the global nature of the rugby community. We welcome applications from all individuals, regardless of their background, and particularly those from underrepresented and disadvantaged groups. We strive to be a diverse and inclusive workplace, which reflects the global sport we want to be and where everyone can be themselves and feel they belong.

We want to ensure our hiring process is fair and inclusive, so we encourage you to disclosure any reasonable adjustments or special requirements on the application form, so we can support and help you to be at your best, when interviewing and during assessments.

Our benefits and rewards

We reward your contributions to growing rugby through a suite of benefits. These may differ depending on the employing entity and your work location and will be shared during the recruitment process.

Here is an overview of how we can support you, in and out of work (these only apply to roles with World Rugby Group and not Rugby World Cup LOCs):

Our hiring process

Have you applied for a vacancy with World Rugby and want to know what's next?

Here's an overview of a typical hiring process and some tips for securing that dream career in rugby!

  1. Application - once you've found a job on the vacancies page, click apply and fill in the information. You'll be asked to upload a CV. Don't attach a cover letter unless it's requested in the advert!
  2. Screening - we'll review your application and share a shortlist with the hiring manager. We'll invite candidates to interview who are the best match to the job criteria. We'll get in touch to discuss salary, your availability, and your right to work for the job location.
  3. 1st Stage Interview - this will either be face-to-face, at our Dublin or London office, or virtual (MS Teams or Zoom). It will cover your motivations, work history, and skills. There may be role-specific and competency-based questions. It's an opportunity for you to learn more about the role and World Rugby, so come prepared with questions!
  4. Hogan Personality Assessment - we want to hire people who will complement and add to our existing culture. So, to get data-based insight into your personality traits and preferences, we may ask you to complete a Hogan assessment. You can find out more about the Hogan surveys (HPI, HDS, and MVPI) here
  5. 2nd Stage Interview - this is a deeper-dive into the requirements of the role and the skills & experience you'll bring; it will likely include a Head of Department and may involve a short task or presentation. We like to meet in-person before an offer is extended, but this stage may also be remote.
  6. Offer - We'll be in touch soon after the final interview to share the good news and a breakdown of the offer. If you verbally accept, we'll send you an employment contract via DocuSign and you're onboarding will begin. Before you know it, you'll be contributing to the growth of rugby!
