Fiji's Eroni Sau continued to make a name for himself on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2018 with a stand-put performance in Hong Kong that earned him the DHL Impact Player award.
The Pacific islander finished on 53 points overall, just one ahead of South African flyer Stedman Gans. Sau made the most breaks of any player in the tournament with 10 and put in a huge shift in attack with 16 carries. However his defence was immense with 21 tackles and was crucial to his side's fourth consecutive title in Hong Kong, after they beat Kenya 24-12 in the final.
Blitzboks newcomer Gans was a standout talent for his side over the three days of competition, helping South Africa to a Bronze medal finish with a 29-7 victory over fierce rivals New Zealand. Gans was on par with Sau in terms of tackles, and narrowly behind for breaks and offloads but outshone the Fijian with his carrying ability, clocking up 20 in total.
In the overall DHL Performance Tracker standings, it's Canada's Justin Douglas with 282 points after seven rounds, leading Sau by 17 points. In third is Australia's Ben O'Donnell with 259, followed closely by France's Tavite Veredamu on 257.
The next round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series takes place on April 28/29 in Singapore.
