The narrow victory takes Guyana into the top 60 for the first time since the rankings were introduced in October 2003 and sets them up nicely for their remaining South Zone round two encounter with Barbados on 11 June when another win will see them face the North Zone winner in the final.

Guyana's victory means that they climb above Colombia, Thailand, Peru, Latvia, Andorra, Venezula and Malaysia and brings them to within half a rating point of the next sides above them in Senegal and Chinese Taipei.
Trinidad & Tobago, who had themselves climbed a new high after beating Barbados the previous weekend, slump six places to 48th as a result of the loss with the Netherlands, Ivory Coast, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe the beneficiaries.
This was the only match over the last seven days which has impacted the IRB World Rankings, Argentina's 75-14 win over lower ranked Uruguay to win the South American Championship and the Bahamas tighter 17-12 defeat of Mexico not having any effect.
