New Zealand’s Michaela Blyde is celebrating a triple success after the HSBC Canada Sevens; as well as winning the tournament with her side and finishing top-try scorer at the weekend, the Kiwi speedster also finished top of the DHL Performance Tracker in Langford.

Blyde, who also featured in the tournament Dream Team along with colleague Ruby Tui, made an impressive 18 tackles, 23 carries and 11 line breaks over the two days, finishing ahead of Russia’s Alena Mikhaltsova. One of her nine tries came in the final against Canada where the Black Ferns won yet another series tournament, 17-7.

French play maker Shannon Izar and Russia’s Baizat Khamidova also had commanding performances at the Westhills Stadium in Langford, racking up 47 and 46 points respectively from a number of notable tackles, breaks offloads and carries.

However, Mikhaltsova still leads the series tracker on 265 points, 30 ahead of Ireland’s captain Lucy Mulhall, while Blyde sits four behind her on 231 points overall.

The DHL Series Impact Award winner will be announced after the final round of the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in Clermont, France, which takes place on 24 and 25 June.
