Former South Africa Sevens Player of the Year Stefan Basson has been recalled to the national side by coach Paul Treu for this weekend's Emirates Airline London Sevens at Twickenham.

Basson was in Amsterdam last weekend to see Treu's side win the International Sevens event there and, while he did not play for the team, his form for several other sides - including against the South Africans in the final - convinced Treu of his fitness.

Since leaving the Blue Bulls, Basson has been playing for Italian club Rovigo but with Treu now ramping up his Sevens preparations ahead of the World Cup in 2009 and the Commonwealth Games in 2010, Basson is keen to return to the fold.

"I wanted to go oversees and have an experience and Italy was really nice, I've really enjoyed it a lot, but I really miss the Sevens so I'm thinking of coming back for two seasons, I'm still deciding," Basson said.

South Africa's Sevens player of the year in 2005 and 2006 is likely to play in his customary sweeper position in London this weekend and is pleased to be stepping into a side full of confidence.

"I'm so happy that South Africa beat New Zealand in the last tournament, but they [New Zealand] have really played well all year. They deserve to be number one so far but we're really going to give them a go in these two tournaments," added Basson.

In other team news, Argentina's Santiago Gomez Cora is set to play in his 50th IRB Sevens World Series event at Twickenham. Gomez Cora is Sevens rugby's all time leading try scorer with 191 and his brother Pablo also returns to the Puma line up, which features five debutants.

Series leaders New Zealand have named two new caps - Ben Nowell and Kendrick Lynn - for the European climax to the season. Gordon Tietjens has also had to fly in Chad Tuoro to replace forward Solomon King, who injured a hamstring.

Lee Dixon is one of four new Sevens caps for England at their home event. Ben Ryan's squad is, however, boosted by the inclusion of fellow England Saxon Ben Foden, speedy wing Uche Oduoza and the leading all time IRB Sevens point scorer, Ben Gollings.

Australia have named five Super 14 players in their group of 12, Scott Higginbotham one of the players returning to the Sevens fold after impressive previous outings.

Marika Vunibaka again leads Fiji in London and, while neither Lepani Nabuliwaqa nor William Ryder is included in the squad, new try-scoring ace Timoci Matanavou is selected. Jo Savou hands out three new caps to Rabonaqica, Burotu and Nakuta.

Andrew Turnbull returns for Scotland to play in his 16th IRB Sevens event, just three short of scoring his 50th try for his country. Will Harries and Nick Macleod make their debuts in a strong Wales team also featuring Jonathan Edwards, Richie Pugh and Aled Brew, while Uale Mai again captains Samoa in his 53rd event, coach Rudi Moors naming Tanalagi and Iakopo as newcomers to the squad.

Like the national side, all 12 of the Moldova players are new to IRB Sevens World Series rugby, while for Spain seven of the players are new to this level.
