Horan won 80 caps for Australia, scoring 30 tries, in a glittering 11-year career that included two Rugby World Cup victories in 1991 and 1999. One of the best centres the sport has ever seen, Horan was blessed with a good turn of pace and a low centre of gravity which made him a notoriously difficult man to put down. Defensively he had few peers either.

Horan played an integral role in both of Australia’s Rugby World Cup triumphs, scoring four tries – including a memorable one in the semi-final against New Zealand when he received David Campese’s outrageous over-the-shoulder pass – as Australia claimed the sport’s biggest prize for the first time in 1991. Eight years later, he was named Player of the Tournament for his consistently excellent performances in the Wallabies’ midfield.

Domestically, he made 119 appearances for Queensland Reds and enjoyed a successful overseas spell with English side Saracens.
