A Rugby World Cup winner in 1987, Grant Fox is still regarded as one of the finest goal-kickers of all time.

Fox played 46 tests for the All Blacks between 1985 and 1993, scoring 645 points. His sole international try came against Scotland in 1990. In 303 first class matches he scored a record 4,112 points, of which 2,746 came in 189 games for Auckland.

His tally of 126 points at the inaugural Rugby World Cup – at an average of 21 per match – is still to be bettered in a single tournament. Seventeen of those points came in the 29-9 win against France in the final.

In 1993, Fox also played a leading role as the All Blacks clinched a 2-1 series win against the British and Irish Lions. On retiring from playing later that year, Fox embarked on a successful media career. 

In 2011 he was named as an All Blacks selector in Steve Hansen’s coaching set-up.
