One of the game’s great entertainers and a lethal finisher who held the world try-scoring record for a decade.

Campese made an immediate impression on his Wallabies debut in 1982. He scored a try – the first of 64 in his 101 tests – and gave established All Black Stu Wilson a torrid time with what was to become his trademark goosestep.

Campese made immense contributions to the 1984 Grand Slam-winning tour of the British Isles and the Bledisloe Cup 2-1 series win against New Zealand two years later, before playing a starring role at Rugby World Cup 1991. With six tries in six games, he ran away with the Player of the Tournament award.

He also played for Randwick, New South Wales and in Italy, where his father was born, with Petrarca Padua and Amatori Milano. He captained Australia to a bronze medal in rugby sevens at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.
